Natural by nature

We are driven by our enthusiasm for sustainable, healthy and fair clothing. As a fourth-generation family business, we produce natural garments in which everyone feels comfortable - in a team that became family to us. We all love what we do. And what is particularly important: we do it with absolute conviction.

Natural by nature

»My goal was to prove that economical production of natural textiles is possible in Germany.«

Gabriele Kolompar, CEO

“I wanted to prove that it is possible to produce natural textiles economically in Germany.”

Gabriele Kolompar, CEO

How it all began ...

We have been producing garments since 1930. From 1982 onwards, we consistently pursued the focus on natural textiles only. A big part of this motivation came from an increase of allergies and skin diseases in babies and small children. This made us one of the pioneers of the natural textile industry, long before it became a trend. And proves pretty well what makes us special - even if we don't think it's so special ourselves. But simply a matter of course.

... and how it‘s going

We are striving to get better every day – for you and for nature. In our merino wool and silk, we have found the perfect material for realising our vision of sustainable, high-quality clothing for babies, children and adults. We create natural products that make you feel comfortable. Because we believe that good things can always be made even better.

ENGEL in numbers

Figures. Data. Facts.

  • 100 % Made in Germany

A full 100 % of our clothing is produced in Germany.
  • We are …

… Germans, Syrians, Turks, Vietnamese, Nigerians, Thais, Lithuanians, Mexicans, Croats, Portuguese, Greeks, Bulgarians, Romanians, French, Russians, Poles, Pakistanis, Congolese … and many more. But above all, we are one thing: humans.
  • 1930

It all began in 1930. Since 1982, we have been a GmbH and have since brought natural materials and sustainability into fashion.
  • 80 tons of wool

We process 80 tons of wool per year for our products. From this, one could spin a wool thread that would wrap around the Earth three times. (A wool thread of 1 g is approximately 1.5 m long).
  • 90 % local

90 % of our suppliers are located within 100 km. Short distances, quick agreements, long business relationships.
  • 500,000 pieces

Our popular wool fleece overall has protected at least half a million little people from moisture, cold, heat, wind, and weather – and looked good while doing it.
  • 100 delicious cakes

Are baked on average each year for the birthday celebrations of our employees.
  • 167,000 sheep

Worked for ENGEL in production in 2023. (However, not on-site in Pfullingen but in their home office in Patagonia)
  • It’s a Women’s World

72 % of our employees are women.
  • 34 countries

This is how many countries we supply with our products.
  • 750,000 items

We produce approximately this number each year. We consider that quite a lot, which is why it is so important to us that an item lasts as long as possible and is produced sustainably.
  • 35 % renewable energy

Already, the share of renewable energy in ENGEL production accounts for over a third – and this trend is increasing.

    What makes us special.

We do what we do with absolute conviction.

    • ENGEL Reborn

Less becomes more: We make the most out of our material resources. Unavoidable offcuts from the production of our precious natural products are processed into new yarns in an ecological recycling process. We use it to make pleasantly warm troyer style sweaters from 80 % merino wool and 20 % silk – for a sustainable feel-good factor and a clear conscience.
    • Unique pieces and limited editions

Every item of clothing has its story. We give leftover scraps of fabric the opportunity to write their own. We produce unique pieces in colours and fabric qualities that are not available in our range. They are unique garments that are ready to discover the world with you. Who is up for a special adventure?
    • Returns

We are delighted when you consciously choose and order our textiles. To make sure you get the right piece of clothing right from the start, we are always happy to advise you on materials and sizes. For sustainability reasons, we do not offer free returns. You can find more information about returns here.
